Wishbox

1st January 2009 saw Wired take part in 'Wishbox' the aerial finale of the 'Feet First' Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations, which took place along The Royal Mile.

Wishbox's team of 16, including ten aerialists, were rehearsing in 'The Higher Space' 12 hours a day for four days and on the 29th and 30th December they rehearsed in a crane yard in Edinburgh, before performing for real on 1 January.

Wishbox was part of celebrations which took place over two and a half hours and saw 120 performers take part in 13 new street theatre acts.

Here's the blurb:

Building on the history of the outdoor entertainments (both modern and medieval) traditionally provided on The Royal Mile, FEET FIRST will weave music, theatre, song, lighting, sound, visual art and aerial choreography into a celebration of the start of the year and at the same time cast a positive gaze onto what the future holds in store for us.

This mesmerising aerial spectacular illuminates the sky high above our heads. Floating delicately on the cold air the mystery above begins to unfold. Stirring, peeking, bursting, swooping, WISHBOX cascades gracefully to the ground and springs back into the air.

Accompanied by live vocals from Cora Bissett, an original musical score and stuffed with aerial magic, this is one present worth waiting for!
